Hereby I proudly present my debut solo album Spoken. As a trumpet player and composer I am best known for my work with the Amsterdam Klezmer Band and groups like STriCat and Spinifex. On this album I show a more intimate, melancholic, sometimes a bit dark but also comforting side of myself.

Inspired by several of my trumpet heroes (Miles Davis, Nils Petter Molvaer, Nicholas Payton, Roy Hargrove, Maurice Brown, Cuong Vu, and Jon Hassell), in 2017 I decided to immerse myself in the wondrous world of effects pedals. After a period of research and experimentation, I used them for the occasional collaborative project with artists from different disciplines. For this I composed music, which I recorded in my home studio. Those recordings kept haunting me – they are laid-back, unique, intimate pieces with a strong personal touch – and I am pleased to share them with you. I created these pieces using my trumpet and a select number of effects pedals. For each piece, I came up with a plan, consisting of sound, form, and content ideas then turned on my recording equipment and improvised a version. Each one is a pure one-take, without any overdubs, full of spontaneity and life.
